Listening To Drums

My ds just took up playing the drums and a lot of people have asked me how I let that happen.  One of my friends actually questioned my sanity. Another mom at the park having over heard this exchange told me I was a better mom than her. 

The funny thing is that I actually love to listen to him practice.  His first instrument was the trumpet, which is loud and sounded like a goose screaming.  Can you imagine listening to that three or more times a week? After the trumpet almost any instrument would be better…

Part of my enjoyment is the joy he has playing. I listen to him tap out rhythms, “one and two and three and four and”…. on everything and I smile. It is beautiful thing watching someone you love find his or her instrument. 

Now if I could only get him to practice more!

Why Can’t I Just Say “No” to the Silent Auction?

This past weekend was marked by the yearly event my dd school host – A Silent Auction. Each year we think about going. This year we even bought tickets and had childcare set up. So did we go? The answer is Nope.

To be honest I really never want to go to events like this. My dh on the other hand wanted to go and I was willing to give it a go.  As the time ticked toward the auction on Saturday I began dreading going.  I started trying to come up with an excuse to beg out of the event. Finally, when 5:30pm rolled around I was resigned that I needed to put my big girl undies on and suck it up and go. That's when our ds came down with a fever.

Now I would never wish for my ds to be sick, but I will admit that I was super jazzed not to go! 

Zombie Drawing Fun

After Mashable posted this awesome tutorial “How to Draw a Zombie Without Losing Your Brrraaains” I just had to give it a try.  The drawing tutorial comes from this great site Andertoons. Just in time for Halloween.

In Need Of Snow Day

Living in the Bay Area a snow day is rather unlikely, but gosh darn it – I really need one. A day that you are pretty much stuck inside and life slows down just for a little while. Where the air is brisk and clean and all you see out the window is white fluffy snowflakes fluttering to the ground. No cars are on the road and it’s quiet. No school, no work, no rushing.

I want to sit on the couch sipping coffee (or hot cocoa) and read a book next to a roaring fire. Snuggled up under a blanket with my kiddos and husband just enjoying each other’s company.
